Morayfield Station Upgrade Moves Ahead
Queensland Rail’s accessibility overhaul of Morayfield Station has taken another leap forward, with the John Holland Group awarded the contract for construction.
State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said awarding the contract would allow early preparation at the station to continue ahead of major construction kicking off later this year.
“Queensland Rail has been undertaking works at the site on foundations, structures and platforms, in preparation for the relocation of overhead electrical equipment,” Mr Ryan said.
“With the John Holland Group now engaged, customers will see major work start to take shape at Morayfield Station from later this year, once detailed construction plans have been completed.”
Mr Ryan said the accessibility upgrade would ultimately provide customers using Morayfield Station with a step-free path of travel through the station precinct.
“The upgrade will ensure everyone, including customers using mobility aids, seniors and people with prams, can travel safely and easily,” he said.
“It is important we ensure local people have safe and independent access to public transport, as well as putting in place improvements needed to support the community into the future.”
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Morayfield Station accessibility upgrade project would also provide a boost for the local construction industry.
“The Morayfield Station upgrade will see John Holland Group support around 250 jobs for contractors and suppliers from the construction industry, including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, labouring, roofing, glazing and traffic control,” Mr Bailey said.
“The station will remain open throughout the major project, however there may be some temporary impacts to station facilities as construction progresses.
“Queensland Rail will ensure customers and the surrounding community are kept well informed ahead of any changes.
“We thank our customers in advance for their patience during these important works, and look forward to delivering an upgraded and independently accessible Morayfield Station for the community.”
The upgrade will include:
a new station building
a new footbridge with lifts
raised platform sections to provide easier access on and off the train
hearing aid loops
extended platform shelters
upgraded lighting and CCTV
new wayfinding, platform signage
upgraded accessible car parking spaces.
The construction contract with John Holland Group will also see upgrades delivered at Strathpine and Boondall stations, as part of a $300 million investment by the Queensland Government to improve accessibility at stations across the South East Queensland train network.
