Budget Supports Major Local Roads and Sporting Upgrades in Division 12
Moreton Bay Regional Council will invest more than $11 million in road and sporting upgrades in Division 12 as part of its 2018/19 Budget.
Division 12 Councillor, Adrian Raedel made the announcement following council’s June 1 budget meeting. “Division 12 is home to plenty of sporting events attracting tens of thousands of tourists and locals each year, so it is vital that we have a safe and reliable local road network to make sure local residents can get around our area safely and with ease,” Cr Raedel said.
“I am also pleased to announce council has committed $3 million for a road and intersection upgrade at Oakey Flat Road in Morayfield including upgrades to traffic signals at the intersection of Morayfield Road and Walkers Road, drainage improvements, new pathways and cycle lanes on both sides of Oakey Flat Road.
“This stretch of road is a vital link to local businesses, shops like Bunnings as well as the Morayfield Sport and Events Centre among others, so it’s imperative we make safety improvements to ensure this local road caters for motorists now and into the future.
Cr Raedel said a $400,000 investment to construct a carpark at Petersen Road Sports Ground in Morayfield, would continue council’s investment in local parks, sport and recreation facilities that includes the second year of funding towards the total $7.8 million expansion of the Morayfield Indoor Sport and Events Centre (MSEC).
“This multimillion-dollar upgrade will see MSEC more than double its existing footprint to 7,000m2 with the construction of two new multipurpose indoor courts and an 1,100m2 modular events space, which can be used for conferences and trade shows.
“The upgrade will also include retractable seating with capacity for more than 1,000 spectators, new changerooms and amenities, and commercial kitchen space.”
Cr Raedel said roads were the other big focus for Division 12 with over $4 million invested for road resurfacing, together with the new Gravel Roads Budget, showing council’s commitment to the less urbanised areas of the Moreton Bay Region.
“The budget also includes the long awaited upgrade to Buckingham Road D’Aguilar.
“The Woodford Streetscaping project is progressing with an $80,000 detailed design budget so that the project can be shovel ready for future years.
Other key initiatives for Division 12 include a $150,000 to construct a fire trail at Webb Road Park in Neurum and $230,000 for an intersection upgrade along Lindsay Road in Morayfield.
