Over $11 million in council road works rollout across region
Moreton Bay’s local road network is set to receive a second round of attention this financial year, after Moreton Bay Regional Council awarded three road resurfacing tenders totalling $11.6 million, as part of council’s $23 million Road Resurfacing Program this financial year.
Spokesperson for Asset Construction and Maintenance and Division 2 Councillor Peter Flannery said the $23 million Road Resurfacing Program would be delivered in two stages, with the first stage nearing completion.
“This month council will commence its second stage of road resurfacing projects including the upgrade of 64 roads across the Moreton Bay Region, following the awarding of three road resurfacing tenders at council’s 8 November 2017 council coordination meeting,” Cr Flannery said.
“As works in Stage 1 nears completion, Stage 2 will focus on the larger projects that require pavement testing and design; including major collector and arterial roads that get large amounts of traffic in the region.
“Road safety is a priority for this council and these upgrades are being carried out to improve motorist safety across the region.”
Cr Flannery said council thanked residents’ for their patience while road upgrades are underway.
“Council appreciates the patience of our community as these project takes place to improve road surfaces right across our region,” he said.
Council staff will liaise directly with businesses and local residents regarding the road upgrades and access requirements when works commence.
Council invested more than $12 million, through the first road upgrade package, which included road resurfacing, line marking, gully pit alterations (to assist with drainage), kerb and channel replacement to protect the edge of road from erosion and assist with stormwater drainage.
Specified roads not accounted for in this project will be carried out by local council crews over the next six months.
Works will commence in November 2017 and be completed by the end of May 2018, weather permitting.
