Bruce Highway/Boundary Road Interchange opens six months early

A $100.4 million upgrade to the Boundary Road Interchange on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane is finished and open to traffic - six months ahead of schedule.

State Members Chris Whiting, Shane King and Steven Miles said the early completion of the new interchange at Narangba was great news for local residents and businesses, as well as other drivers using the Bruce Highway.

Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting said this was one of the biggest roads projects for the fast growing region.

“I am thrilled to announce the completion of such a momentous upgrade.

“Locals will benefit so much from this – and they are impressed our Main Roads team has delivered this project so quickly,” said Chris Whiting.

Acting Queensland Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Steven Miles said the original two-lane Boundary Road Bridge had served the surrounding community for 40 years before being demolished earlier this year.

“The new six lane bridge over the highway, which is the centrepiece of this new interchange, has transformed this area for the growing Narangba community, by moving traffic through more quickly and greatly benefiting local commuters, cyclists, pedestrians and businesses in the area,” Mr Miles said.

“The interchange also features longer on and off-ramps to improve safety for motorists entering and exiting the highway and a separate shared user path to help pedestrians and cyclists safely navigate the interchange. All of these features will significantly improve safety, eases congestion and caters for traffic growth for years to come.”

Member for Kallangur Shane King said he was excited to see works completed ahead of schedule.

“This upgrade, with its shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists, is helping make this part of Brisbane more liveable for people here now, and future generations,” Mr King said.

The $100.4 million project was jointly funded with the Australian Government providing $80.3 million and the Queensland Government providing $20.1 million.
