Council invests almost $1 million in stormwater infrastructure upgrades across the region

A number of stormwater pipes and associated infrastructure will be upgraded across the Moreton Bay Region thanks to the latest investment of nearly $1 million from Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Spokesperson for Asset Construction and Maintenance and Division Two Councillor Peter Flannery said council had awarded a $989,000 construction tender to replace and upgrade 33 stormwater lines across the Moreton Bay Region.

“Council will undertake vital stormwater renewal projects in 20 locations right across the region, including in Arana Hills, Banksia Beach, Bongaree, Brendale, Caboolture, Clontarf, Dayboro, Donnybrook, Joyner, Lawnton, Margate, Narangba, Petrie, Rothwell, Strathpine and Woody Point,” Cr Flannery said.

“These locations have been identified through council’s inspection program, which utilises CCTV cameras placed into stormwater pipes across the region to access which infrastructure needs upgrading or replacing.

“An effective drainage network is vital to managing stormwater run-off across the region, and council’s proactive inspection and replacement program helps to ensure that our stormwater network is free from blockages, obstructions and is in a good structural condition.

Council manages 2,400 kilometres of stormwater pipes throughout the region, the same distance as a round trip from Brisbane to Longreach.

Cr Flannery said council asked for residents’ patience when the stormwater infrastructure upgrade commenced.

“Council appreciates the patience of our community as this project takes place,” he said.

Council’s contractor will liaise directly with local residents and businesses regarding the stormwater renewal projects and access requirements when works commence.

Construction is expected to commence next month and take about nine months to complete, weather permitting.
